A visit with Cafe Grumpy in NYC

Over the thanksgiving weekend, (I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been busy with uhm… personal matters…) I had a chance to visit Cafe Grumpy during a visit to New York City. Even though the place was kind of busy, and the barista (whose name I’ve completely forgotten, sorry man!) was serving the shots as fast as possible, the cup I ordered was fantastic.

I took home a couple of pounds of their Espresso Toscano blend to share for godshots, a very very tasty blend that served us extremely well for the couple of weeks following the trip. You would generally expect a blend from such an awesome coffee shop to be real good, but the truth is that the altitude here in Mexico City affects brewing conditions such that most blends don’t brew here in quite the way they were meant to by the cuppers who developed them. So it was a pleasant surprise and a relief to find the Toscano blend adapting to the conditions here and giving us consistently tasty shots.

Anyway, I had an awesome time drinking coffee at the place, and recommend it highly as a top coffee destination in NYC for anyone visiting town and needing a perfectly made nectar of the gods.
